These student artists are enjoying creating mosaic coasters.

What's is a Tona Mask? It is an animal mask that represents the artist. In ancient Mexico is was believed that animals and people were connected and share a common destiny. The students choose an animal they felt best represents them and created a paper mask.

​

Second graders are learning about artist, Juan Quezeda. Students were inspired by this famous artist and created coil pots similar to his artwork.

First grade artists used a print making technique to create evergreen cards.

The class looked at Jasper John's Three Flags and found the patterns. This kindergarten artist is printing repeating, alternating, and random patterns.

Third graders continue to refine their 3D masks.

We ROCK! First grade artists completed full body shape self-portraits that are hanging outside of the Art Studio and now are creating pumpkin paper collage art.

This creative block sculpture created by kindergartners wowed me. Look at these student-artists beautiful block creation.

It is great to back at OCPS! The student artists are very enthusiastic to be back. Third graders are beginning their school year with a 2D and 3D portrait unit. The picture above are 3rd  graders creating a paper mache masks.

Tonight we celebrated all the hard work students accomplished in the 2018-2019 school year. Every student had art work on display. Thank you for all that came and celebrated with the OCPS family. Another wonderful FOP!

Textile art is usually made with fabric. Second graders are sowing a flower on burlap. Their textile art will be on display at the Festival of Progress May 29th, I hope everyone comes to see all the beautiful art.

Ocean City Primary School is participating in Atlantic & Cape May County wide art show. These are the artist and artwork that are representing our school. The art work will be on display for the entire month of March at The Noyes Art Garage of Stockton University with a reception for all to attend on Saturday March 30th 11:30am-1pm.

2nd Graders are in the process of creating Kindness Art (inspired by Robert Indiana) using a variety of art media. Results will be posted soon!

3rd Grade students are exploring questions like: what is form? what is sculpture? what is proportion? how do artist care and maintain material? what methods and processes are considered when preparing artwork for presentation? As they learn about the artist Edgar Degas and create wire sculptures.

Kindergarten students are learning about architecture. They are acting as architects and designing their own three-dimensional houses.

3rd graders played a game, Roll-A-Picasso, to begin an photography collage unit highlighting Picasso's art style: Cubism.

Welcome Back! This school year 2018-2019 I have chosen a them of WONDER! I enjoyed seeing so many of you at our open house today! Thank you for designing a unique star that was added to the showcase! I am excited for another WONDERful and creative year in the Art Studio!

Last night, May 30, 2018, OCPS looked like an Art Musuem. Thank you for all your supoprt at the Festival of Progress. It was a wonderful event celebrating all of student's ahievement in the 2017-2018 school year.

Third grade student, Carly G., is grouting her mosaic coaster tile. Students are finishing their coasters this week and will be beginning them home soon. The question discussed in the art critique was: how does art represent personal expression, exploration, and / or insight? Student described why their made the aesthetic decision they made in creating their coasters.

Today is the last day before OCPS's holiday break. Thank you for the gift of your children, I have the most wonderful students. Above is a picture of 1st grader art star with an Evergreen Print card he created.

Kindergarten students have been learning the difference between 2-dimentional and 3-dimentional art. Student artists created pinch pot out of clay and painted their 3-dimentioanal artwork.

I dressed up as Vincent Van Gogh for Halloween. I included a picture of Van Gogh's self portrait I modeled my costume after!

Second graders are learning about famous artist, Henri Matisse, & how he is famous for bright, colorful still life paintins. Second graders are creating Still Lfie paintings of their own.

Today is the first day of school and I am so excited to be teaching at OCPS for my 3rd year. This year students will CREATE beautiful art and I happy to share it on my website. Keep visiting! As always thank you for your support!

On May 31, 2017 our  school hosted another Festival of Progress. Every student artist in the school exhibited between 3-5 art pieces. The show was a smaching sucess! Thank you for your support!

The entire second grade are in the middle of a stitching unit. The flower is an example of a flower stitching project by Adeline Robbins. Brynn Madden brought in another textile art project she is creating at  home. Second graders are really excited about textile art.

This week was OCPS's Teacher Appreciation Week! Thank you OCPS families for all the lunches, cards, gifts, and a very fun door covering. It was a wonderful week. I hope all my students know how much I appreciate them too!

Third graders are in a Moasic Coaster unit. Every 3rd grader will have a Moasic Coaster on display in the Showcase at the Festival of Progress. This is a picture of the progect in process.

This weekend I was able to visit a Atlantic and Cape May's Youth Art Month exhibit at  The Noyes Arts Garage in Atlantic City. The Noyes Art Garage is full of artist's studio spaces. You should visit. My trip there has inspired to new project in The Studio!

2nd Graders Are Using their Imagination to create clay animals in a 3D paper collage landscape. 

In our of Martin Luther King all of our students at Ocean City Primary took & signed a peace pledge.

Second graders are using their imagination to create a new composite species. They started with sketching imaginary animals using parts of three real animals. Next they used the sketch for inspiration and created the imaginary animal out of clay.

This is a student from Mrs. Dunner's class with a woven bowl she is currently working on in the Art Studio.

Ms. Dolly's pre-school class created ornaments during art class. They packaged them up and created cards to go home.

After 2nd graders completed the still life painting unit in the style of Henri Matisse they starred another unit inspired by him. Students learned Matisse is also famous for cut paper collage art. Students created cut paper collages using both geometric and organic shapes.

First graders created printing plates and participated in the printing process.

Mrs. Snyder's kindergarten class painted both three dimensional and two dimensional art! After they finished painting their 3D pinch pots students painted a 2D picture on paper. It was a wonderful experience for all.

All grade levels will be participating in an art unit on clay. Today kindergarten, first grade, third grade students created art projects out of clay. Kindergarten learned about the element of art: form and created pinch pots. First graders expanded on their previous knowledge of a pinch pot and created a bird in a nest. The nest started as a pinch pot. Third graders created decorative clay masks using the 3S's: score, slip, and smooth. Second graders will begin their clay unit later in the school year. Over all it was a very productive day in the Art Studio.

First Graders are learning how art reflects culture. This is Mrs. Eget’s first graders with their paper collage Jack-O-Lanterns.

This month a sampling of 3rd Grade student artwork are on display at the Cape May County’s Superintendent’s Office. The projects are Proportional Symmetrical Self-Portraits and Full Body Action Wire Sculptures.

Mrs. Naplacic’s third grade class started Unit Two Cubism Photo Collage. They started by playing the game “Roll A Picasso” after learning about influential artist Pablo Picasso.

​

Students are learning and applying how artist use shapes to create art work. These kindergartner students are creating an animal out of shapes.

Ms. Haury and Mrs. Gorny’s class completed their family portraits. The artists shared all the visual clues they included in their drawings and they received complements from classmates.

First graders having a class critique after completing their large self-portraits. The artists shared the special things they included: an outfit, place, and an object in their hand.

Ocean City Primary School has the privilege of displaying artwork in our county’s board office during the month of October. Third graders were invited on a voluntary basis to create an extra art project, wire sculptures of a full body person in action, to showcase a three-dimensional project as well as two-dimensional drawings. First graders in Mrs. Humphries class created large self-portraits by drawing shapes for the body parts. Students decorated themselves with a special outfit, in a special place, and holding a special object.

Ms. Ferrier's second grade class is busy working on family portraits using oil pastels. The class learned about the principle of design, balance, and demonstrated balance by creating a family portrait with the people evenly spread out in front of the horizon line. 

Beginning the 2016-2017 school year all art students are learning about portraits. This third grader is busy drawing a symmetrical proportional self-portrait.
