SPSL Mission:

Prepare students for 21st century STEM occupations through a series of real-world design projects based on the engineering process that will expose students to emerging technologies and allow for the application of scientific and mathematics principles.

Overview:

Somers Point will offer STEM to 7th and 8th grade students at the Jordan Road School. The course will lead students through hands-on engineering units that aim to solve current real world-problems. Students will work in small design teams and utilize modern technologies such as 3-D Printing, CAD software, virtual simulation and robotics in order to create solutions. Mathematics and scientific principles will need to be applied throughout the design process in order for design solutions to be successful. At the end of each unit students will communicate their results in a professional presentation and share their work with peers, teachers, parents and the community. Ultimately, students will encounter an array of challenges across the four disciplines of STEM that will foster creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, persistence and problem solving.
